ENGINEERING CHALLENGES
Keeping payment state and subscription state in sync.
Payments don't happen inside the application itself. A customer can start a checkout flow, complete payment, and return later while the application is waiting for the payment provider's webhook.
The system therefore treats webhook events as an important source of truth and uses background processing for operations that shouldn't block the main request.
